Emergency Services

​

  • Emergency calls dial “911”. 

  • Non-emergency calls contact the Somerset Communications Center (474-6386)

  • Ambulance: Anson, Madison and Starks (AMS) Ambulance Service

  • Police: Somerset County Sheriff’s Department (911) and Maine State Police (911)

  • Fire: Starks Fire Department (station 696-1082)  Mutual Aid through town fire departments in Anson, Madison, Industry and New Sharon

Trash and Recycling

Trash pick-up: Individuals contract with service through local companies. Several are listed below:

  • Gregory's Disposal (465-4500)

  • Somerset Disposal Service (696-5670)

  • Archie’s/J&J (364-2425)

 

Large Item Pick-up: (free to residents) is done bi-annually. Pick-up includes bulky goods (tires (for a fee), appliances, scrap metal, furniture, etc. as well as household electronic wastes (computers, fluorescent lights, etc.)


Recycling pick-up: (free to residents) - second and fourth Thursday of each month.

  • If you normally don’t set out recycling and want to ensure pick-up call Joe Hayden to let him know your address.

  • Recycling bins are not a requirement of the program

  • FYI: Glass is no longer accepted as a recyclable item

Starks Food Pantry

 

The Food Pantry is open the first and third Wednesdays from 9 - 11 AM. In June, July and August hours are 9 - 10:30 AM.  If you are unable to come during those hours, call to make an appointment.
